About Us

Our Company

Built From the Ground Up — Family-Owned Since 2005

Family-owned, family-run, and rooted in Alta Loma. For more than two decades we've designed, built, and maintained outdoor spaces across the Inland Empire and greater Southern California.

Our Story

From a One-Truck Crew to Southern California's Trusted Grounds Partner

Ground Up Outdoors started in 2005 with a single truck, two brothers, and one weekly maintenance route through Alta Loma. Two decades later, we still operate out of the same Alta Loma yard — only now the route covers the entire Inland Empire and the rest of greater Southern California, and the families who hired us in those first months are still on the schedule.

What grew was the work, not the values. We added an in-house irrigation specialty in 2009 after one too many arguments with subcontracted plumbers. We picked up our first HOA contract in 2012, our first municipal grounds account in 2017, and our first business-park program in 2019 — each one earned on referral, never on a price war. Today the company runs as a single bonded team of designers, foremen, irrigation techs, arborists, and maintenance crews, all employed in-house.

The thread through every account is continuity. The lead foreman who walks your property on day one is the same person you'll talk to in year ten. The estimate that lands in your inbox is the invoice that arrives after the work. And the family that started the business still answers the phone, because that's how we'd want to be treated as a client.

How We Work

Six Operating Principles Behind Every Account

Single Bonded Team

Design, install, irrigation, arboriculture, and maintenance live under one roof. No subcontractors, no finger-pointing — the people who plan the work are the people who do the work.

California-Native Knowledge

Drought-tolerant palettes, MWD-compliant turf alternatives, and irrigation tuned for clay and decomposed-granite soils. We work with the SoCal climate instead of against it.

Same-Crew Continuity

The faces who showed up last week show up next week. Long-tenured crews learn the quirks of your property — which slopes drain slowly, which trees lift the curb, which neighbor watches what.

Honest, Itemized Estimates

Every line is priced before tools come off the truck. Change orders are documented and signed in advance. The estimate is the invoice — no upcharges, no surprise additions, no rounding up.

Owner-Accessible

Founders still walk properties, still pick up the phone, and still sign off on every multi-day install. There is a direct cell number on every contract — and it actually rings through.

Long-Term Partnership

Most of our clients have been with us five, ten, or fifteen years. We bid jobs to keep, not to win-and-leave — which is why most of our growth comes from referrals, not advertising.

What to Expect

What Working With Us Looks Like

Step 01

Walk-Through

A licensed Ground Up foreman walks the property with you, asks how you actually use the space, photographs problem areas, and listens to what has not worked with previous companies. There is no site-visit fee and no obligation — most consultations run thirty to sixty minutes.

Step 02

Plan & Estimate

Within one business day a written, itemized plan with materials, scope, foreman name, and a guaranteed start window lands in your inbox. The estimate is plain English and broken out by task, so you know exactly what you are signing for before any crew is dispatched.

Step 03

Long-Term Care

Work begins on the agreed date with the same crew you met. Photo updates after every visit, electronic billing, monthly walk reports for HOA and commercial accounts, and a single foreman who knows your account from one year to the next.

What Long-Tenure Clients Say

Twenty Years of Trusted Relationships

Real reviews from homeowners, HOA boards, and property managers who have been with us for five years or more.

01

Twelve years and counting with Ground Up. Same lead foreman, same easy communication, same well-kept yard. We have moved twice within Rancho Cucamonga and they have followed us each time. That kind of continuity is genuinely rare in this business.

Our HOA has been a Ground Up account since 2014. Three boards have rotated through and the relationship has not skipped a beat. Monthly walk reports, budget projections, never a surprise charge. They communicate with us the way we wish every vendor would.

I run a small commercial center in Ontario and the previous landscapers had us in a perpetual game of crew musical chairs. Ground Up has had the same two-man team here for over four years now. The grounds look better and my tenants notice every week.
